Skunk2 is proud to introduce its all-new, 74mm Pro Series Throttle Body for Honda’s K-series engines—the biggest K-series throttle body you can buy. Skunk2’s Pro Series Throttle Bodies are designed to be used with OEM Acura RSX (PRB) or Skunk2 Pro Series Intake Manifolds for bolt-on horsepower and torque gains by optimizing engine airflow (other applications, including ’06+ Civic Si RBC manifolds, require adapter plate).

Skunk2 throttle bodies undergo an extensive design and testing process to produce a unit that doesn’t just provide more flow, but retains smooth drivability and OEM throttle characteristics. Skunk2 Pro-Series Throttle Bodies are designed using the latest CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) tools to produce a unit that exceeds industry standards. Skunk2 K-series timing chain tensioner for K20A

Honda isn’t perfect. As good as its K-series engine is, its tensioner has its problems. But Skunk2 has the solution—its Pro Series Timing Chain Tensioner. It’s never been safer to run big cams in your K.

Timing chain tensioners are simple but important. Take Honda’s K-series, for example. The crankshaft keeps the intake side of the chain tight but it’s the tensioner’s job to do so for the exhaust side. Without it, the cams would start spinning but ultimately just sit there doing nothing. Honda’s design incorporates both spring pressure and engine oil pressure. At low engine speeds, when oil pressure is low, the tensioner’s internal spring moves its piston toward the timing chain guide, reducing chain slack. As engine speed and oil pressure rise, the spring relaxes and oil pressure pushes against the piston. But Honda’s spring doesn’t always work as you’d expect, and excess tensioner piston travel and timing chain slack when oil pressure is low is common—especially during start-up when the spring is left to control the exhaust cam slamming shut all by itself. All of this can lead to engine damage, even on unmodified engines. Worst of all, you’ll never know any of this is happening until it’s too late.

The problem is intensified once camshafts with aggressive closing ramps and/or stiffer valve springs are added. When the exhaust valves close while idling or during start-up, the tensioner’s piston slams back toward its housing, which causes its teeth to bash against its ratcheting mechanism. This isn’t a good thing since the ratchet and piston teeth are the only things that prevent the piston from being pushed in too far, which would otherwise lead to a dangerously loose timing chain that can potentially jump teeth, so keeping it intact becomes even more important. Once the piston’s teeth wear down, the safety mechanism’s gone. Meanwhile, as the tensioner’s spring struggles to resist the exhaust camshaft’s closing motion, the timing chain continues to slack, which is obvious by its kinking in the upper region near the camshaft gears. All of this is caused by a spring that’s too weak to counteract the exhaust valves slamming shut and weak, undersized piston teeth that wear from repeated bashing against their ratcheting mechanism. Until now, the solution was to “add a click” to the OEM tensioner, which reduces tensioner piston travel but doesn’t solve the overall problem. Stiffer springs have also been experimented with, but neither solution addresses the bashing effect and potential for worn piston teeth.

Skunk2’s K-series Timing Chain Tensioner fixes all of this. Pro Series Tensioners are machined from high-quality 7075-aluminum, heat-treated, and feature stiffer, OEM-quality springs that prevent the exhaust camshaft from slamming shut at low engine speeds and eliminate chain slack, even under low oil pressure conditions where the factory spring would have been compromised. Skunk2’s tensioner also includes an upgraded 16mm diameter piston (1.5mm larger) with a larger ratcheting mechanism featuring deeper and wider, hardened-steel ratcheting teeth for extra protection—the ultimate fail-safe to ensure against excessive piston travel due to worn teeth. Skunk2’s tensioner also fits tightly against the timing chain guide to ensure against rotational movement, which can exert uneven load against the ratcheting teeth. Even the factory-designed oil passages and check valves are retained, which means the tensioner remains lubricated and pressurized just as Honda intended.

Skunk2’s Pro Series Intake Manifold for Honda’s K-series has arrived. Skunk2 engineers looked to the popular ’06+ Civic Si’s RBC intake manifold for inspiration and went back to the drawing board. Skunk2’s Pro Series Intake Manifold for Honda’s K-series features a larger plenum and shorter, oversized runners when compared to the RBC, and is cast with thicker wall material, leaving room for further porting for high-horsepower applications. Instead of producing a manifold with a significantly oversized plenum and excessively short runners that would sacrifice mid-range power, the Pro Series manifold was designed for the “street enthusiast” who wants more power but doesn’t want to sacrifice mid-range performance to get it. The results are improved airflow, an enhanced venturi effect, and both mid-range and top-end power gains.

Skunk2’s all-new, cast-aluminum Pro Series Intake Manifold for Honda’s K-series is a direct-fit replacement for all K20/K24 engines thanks to its unique, patent-pending water neck design and throttle body flange, which is compatible with OEM throttle bodies as well as those as large as 76mm (’06+ Civic Si requires adapter, sold separately). The special water neck design eliminates the cutting that would otherwise be involved with some RBC applications (remaining applications require special 1.0 x 11.5-inch NPT plug, sold separately), and the supplied thermal-insulated intake manifold gasket makes for a truly bolt-on installation (no drilling or modifying required). Pro Series manifolds also incorporate an angled-runner design, which allows for ample hood clearance on ’88-’00 Civics and ’90-’01 Integras with K-series engine swaps, as well as additional core support clearance on ’02-’05 Civic Sis.

Pro Series Intake Manifolds offer horsepower and torque gains greater than the popular RBC manifold but without compromising mid-range power output. The design incorporates runners that are similar in length to the RBC’s but with larger bores, a special tapered design, as well as a larger, tapered plenum that together preserve mid-range power but increase and accelerate airflow to allow for significant top-end power gains. Pro Series Intake Manifold runner exits are also machined and hand-finished to best match the cylinder head’s ports. Skunk2’s Pro Series Intake Manifold’s shape and design also increases wave scavenging effects at the engine’s ideal operating range, which allow for a broad increase in usable power.

MEGAPOWER RR EXHAUST

Skunk2 is pleased to announce our all new line of 76mm (3 inch) Mega Power R exhaust systems. Skunk2 Mega Power R exhaust systems are based off of the exhaust systems we custom build for our road race and time attack cars. These systems are designed for highly modified naturally aspirated or turbocharged applications that require more exhaust flow than what is achievable with the our standard 60mm Mega Power and 70mm Mega Power R exhaust systems. Dyno-proven for maximum horsepower, Skunk2 Racing Mega Power R cat-back systems are constructed from T-304 stainless steel, are robotically TIG welded, and feature CNC mandrel bending which allows the tubing to maintain a constant diameter throughout. Each system is designed with oversized tubing and mufflers to achieve the additional flow that is required for high horsepower vehicles. Skunk2 Pro-Series valve springs are the best valve springs on the sport compact market. Skunk2 Racing Pro-Series valve springs are designed to handle the demands of extreme lift camshafts running at the prolonged high rpms of professional championship level racing. The Skunk2 Racing Pro-Series valves springs have been tested for use up to 11,000 rpm. The Japanese milled super clean chrome silicone wire is 100% eddy-current inspected before coiling. After the spring is coiled, it is heat treated, shot-peened, and further enhanced with an advanced proprietary chemical polishing and nitride process. The end result is a lightweight valve spring that will safely accommodate high lifts and has superior resistance to load loss even under extreme operating conditions. This type of performance is only possible because of the additional processing and stress relieving that goes into Skunk2 Racing Pro-Series valve springs allowing Pro Series Valve Springs to be made with less coils.
